Buddhini from Sri Lanka talks about text messaging. This video supplements lesson #882 on elllo.org that has Jake and Lindsay talking about text messaging.
Do you agree with her?

Hi.
Text message..umm.. it depends on language level. for people who use language very well, it doesn't matter. if you're wrong for your written language, you don't use the wrong grammar whenever you use language all the time. But for people who is lower level in language -for example foreign who learn English, the wrong text message may influence the grammar of users. it's my opinion.
have a good day.
I agree with you Buddhini. I think texting is a new and interesting language that is evolving very rapidly and it should not be compared to traditional writing or speaking.
I don't think so because each form of communication need so some roles to be used for example when we speak is not the same when we write or send a telex.
good lacky.
I don't think that texting needs to have any rules. The only thing that is important is communication. If the message can be understood then it is a good message IMHO (In my humble opinion).
I think that text message is very bad to grammar becouse I am a enlish student ,I am from Chile, and sometimes I can not undertand wath people write, becouse they use a bad grammar in the massege.but I think for people who lives in english countries it doensn'T MATTER.

Hey Buddi!!!
Well i don't think text messages hav an influence on grammer... bt it has a major influence on spellings...
Also on the other hand think of someone who doesn't have a sound vocabulary... then that person would find it difficult to understand the message and also it's difficult to use a dictionary because we don't use correct spellings!! One of my friends gave me a call once because he was lost because i didn't spell "unconscious" right!!!
actually, i dont think it causes a bid pbm on grammar, although i use texting quite often, with my friend.
however, it doesnt seem to harm my grammar. cz wt u have learned is in yr mind, grammar is a thing that if you hv a firm basic of grammar standard, u wont change it. u know it quite well where is the mistakes, right?
therefore, using cell phone for texting is one of the ways that the ppl to communicate with others.
I think texting is a really bad because tradicional grammar is broken and we lose culture.
I`m from Guatraché, La Pampa, Argentina.

I think that text message including simple words and unique grammar, is separate to using correctly grammar. But we can't disregard about influence that sometimes having a confuse point in using rightful grammar.
And then, While we use simple words, grammar and text message, we don't have to forget that it's sometimes wrong.

Communication in this modern age is becoming lacking at best... I think the use of texting, instant messaging and other forms of modern technology are leaving traditional language in a sad state of disarray. For mor on this suject, please read this:
